The Plum Borough School District has immediate openings for full-time Bus Drivers. These employees will drive District buses to safely transport students between bus stops and schools, on field trips or other designated events, as assigned. Hourly rate is $16.00 per hour for full-time drivers.

 

Possession of a valid Pennsylvania Commercial Driver's License and a valid State of Pennsylvania School Bus Driver's Certificate is required or paid training will be provided by the District.  

 

PURPOSE: The job of the bus driver is to operate a bus in a safe and economical manner. It requires the ability to understand and carry out instructions and to perform work requiring good physical condition and to relate to students, parents and school system personnel.

 

FUNCTIONS:

1. Maintain the necessary licensing requirements that are required to operate a school bus in Pennsylvania.
2. Operates the school vehicle in a safe manner.
3. Follows specific bus routes established by the school district.
4. Reports all problems with the school vehicle on the proper form.
5. Loads and unloads students only at stops established by the school district.
6. Maintains regular and predictable attendance.
7. Obeys all state, local and Federal laws and regulations governing travel on roads and streets for public vehicles.
8. Reports student problems to the Building Principal and Transportation Director or designee.
9. Ability to complete various forms and records, including updated route sheets, time sheets, field trips, incident and accident reports, et cetera.
10. Reports all accidents to the Transportation Director or designee.
11. Makes a pre-trip inspection daily of the assigned vehicle.
12. Maintains the bus in a clean condition at all times including cleaning and sweeping buses and picking up refuse on a daily basis.
13. Maintains discipline on the bus.
14. Attends employee meetings; including safety, training, retraining, etc., as required.
15. Fuels the bus on a daily basis.
16. Conducts daily post-trip inspection, making sure that the vehicle is in proper operation mode and no students remain on the bus.
17. Reports hazardous or dangerous conditions along bus route and at student loading zones, including such hazards as unusual traffic, road conditions, obstructions, construction, and potential criminal activity.
18. Maintains and keeps all vision areas clear on the bus, which would include front and rear windows and mirrors.
19. Effective communication skills with the ability to interface diplomatically with administrators and other district staff, parents and students.
20. Performs any other related duties as deemed necessary by the Transportation Director or designee.

 

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS: High School diploma or equivalent. Knowledge of local roadways and professional driving procedures, along with a valid Pennsylvania Commercial Driver's License and a valid State of Pennsylvania School Bus Driver's Certificate is required.  Must pass pre-employment physical and drug screening tests.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Light, max. lift 20lbs., frequent lift/carry – up to 10 lbs.
